Superb Finn Juhl FD-136 Lounge Chairs in Teak and Wool - SOLD

January 9, 2020

We are honored to offer this spectacular pair of FD-136 lunge chairs designed by Danish master Finn Juhl. Known as the ‘France Chair’, this sculptural design was first produced in 1956. It has many characteristic Finn Juhl design details: the seat and back are lifted from the frame and the armrests have the iconic paper knife detail, also found Juhl’s famous 45 Chair. One chair is labeled with the early France & Daverkosen medallion, dating it to 1954-57. The other has the France & Son label. We believe the chairs were likely purchased together in 1957, at the time of the name change.

Provenance: from the collection of a family who purchased a houseful of furniture in Denmark in the 1950s and had it shipped over to the US, where it remained in storage for many years. It was extraordinarily well-cared for, along with the rest of the Finn Juhl, Arne Vodder, Moller and Nanna Ditzel furniture we obtained from the same collection.

These chairs are in outstanding condition, and look as though they are fresh from the showroom floor. The original owners had a skilled upholsterer carefully remove the original wool upholstery, install new foam, and replace the original fabric. They are just stunning. One chair has a small area of mild scratches on the back leg and a tiny gouge on the left arm. The other has a tiny bruise on the left arm. Overall, these chairs are in incredible condition.

Outstanding Danish Teak High Chair by Nanna Ditzel c. 1955 - SOLD

January 9, 2020

A gorgeous solid teak child's high chair designed by Nanna Ditzel (known as “the First Lady of Danish design”) for Kold Savvaerk, Denmark, 1955. Ditzel designed the chair for her twin girls, Vita and Lulu, born in 1954. It won the Lunning Prize for design in 1956. Wonderfully sculptural yet simple. This is an iconic piece of Danish design and is often featured in design books. Adjustable foot rest. Beautifully rendered in warm teak, early edition. This chair retains the original removable teak ‘seatbelt’, rarely seen on these chairs after 65 years.

This chair is in outstanding condition for its age and use. Provenance: from the collection of a family who purchased a houseful of furniture in Denmark in the 1950s and had it shipped over to the US, where it remained in storage for many years. Knoll No. 657 Sling Chairs in Leather

October 31, 2019

We are pleased to offer an elegant Knoll Pollock Arm Chairs with cognac leather sling and black seat. This spare and very comfortable chair was recently re-introduced by Knoll, and new chairs sell for $2,730 each. This is a wonderful opportunity to own an actual vintage 1971 chair at a fraction of that price.

(Please note that the black chair shown has been sold and one cognac chair remains available.)

Designed by Charles Pollock in 1960 and originally manufactured from 1964-79, the steel and leather ‘sling chair’ or '657', as it is commonly called, offers a refined combination of materials and finishes. The chair’s spare frame is polished chrome steel tubing and cast aluminum with a black-fused finish, producing a sleek and subtly contrasting profile. Heavy natural cowhide, carefully shaped to form the back and seat sling, is suspended on the frame. A glove-soft capeskin seat pad provides additional support and comfort.

Our chairs are in good vintage condition. The two shown here are representative of the overall condition of the collection. There is finish wear on the arms, some nicks and scratches on the leather, and a couple of missing end caps. All chairs are structurally sound, with wonderful leather patina, and truly comfortable!

All-Original Iconic Eames RAR Rocking Chair, Light Ochre - SOLD

June 6, 2019

It is so unusual to find a true vintage Eames rocker that is completely original. We have not restored the shell, base, or rockers at all, only given the chair a light cleaning.

The rocking chair is part of Charles and Ray Eames’ 1948 collection of seating with shells made from polyester reinforced with glass fiber, a new material developed by the US army in the second world war. The seat could be attached to a number of bases, including a wooden rocker (RAR = “rocking armchair rod”). These chairs were produced until 1968 by Herman Miller, and have since been re-issued with polypropylene seats.

This is a wonderful example of the original visible-fiber shell construction, in very good as-found vintage condition. The seat has a couple of very small dings and scratches which we attempted to photograph.

Mahogany & Teak Chairs by Ingmar Relling - SOLD

April 9, 2019

A very hard-to-find design by acclaimed Norwegian designer Ingmar Relling for Vestlandske Møbelfabrik, Norway, 1950s. This model is named “Senior” and is crafted in mahogany, teak and brass.
