All-Original Iconic Eames RAR Rocking Chair, Light Ochre - SOLD

June 6, 2019

It is so unusual to find a true vintage Eames rocker that is completely original. We have not restored the shell, base, or rockers at all, only given the chair a light cleaning.

The rocking chair is part of Charles and Ray Eames’ 1948 collection of seating with shells made from polyester reinforced with glass fiber, a new material developed by the US army in the second world war. The seat could be attached to a number of bases, including a wooden rocker (RAR = “rocking armchair rod”). These chairs were produced until 1968 by Herman Miller, and have since been re-issued with polypropylene seats.

This is a wonderful example of the original visible-fiber shell construction, in very good as-found vintage condition. The seat has a couple of very small dings and scratches which we attempted to photograph.

24 7/8” w x 27 1/4” d x 26 3/4” h

Pair of Folke Ohlsson Teak 'Scissor' Lounge Chairs - SOLD

September 17, 2018

Wow, what a stunning pair! Gorgeous and iconic ‘Scissor’ chairs by Folke Ohlsson for Dux, made in Sweden circa 1960's. This classic design features clean and simple lines with subtle angles that look great from any angle. It’s also very comfortable!

Scissor chairs were most commonly produced in a stained beech, but this pair is executed in glowing solid teak with a beautiful grain. We chose a stunning turquoise fabric for the brand new cushions that contrasts just beautifully with the warm teak frame. This is Knoll’s rich, nubby Classic Boucle in the ‘Aegean’ colorway. Fabric specs here: Knoll Classic Boucle.

This set has been professionally restored and is in excellent vintage condition. There is a light water stain to one leg as shown. New webbing, high density foam cushions, and upholstery.

25.25” w x 32.25” d x 27.75” high (frame) / 28.25” high (cushion)
Seat height 17.75”, seat depth 20”

Hans J. Wegner AP62/3 Leather & Rosewood Sofa - SOLD

June 11, 2018

A simply gorgeous rosewood and leather sofa by Danish master Hans J. Wegner for AP Stolen. Wegner's designs for AP Stolen, including his iconic Papa Bear chair, are some of his finest. This design, has recently been re-issued by Carl Hansen & Søn as the CH163, and for good reason. It is a stunningly elegant, understated but richly detailed design. From the solid rosewood frame to the beautifully worn-in original buffalo leather cushions, this sofa is a head-turner.

We love the circular detail inset into the front of the rosewood arms. Wegner created this solution to hide the fasteners that hold the arm upholstery in place. As with all of Wegner's designs, this sofa looks amazing from all angles and would suit virtually all modern living environments.

The legs and external frame elements are all solid Brazilian rosewood.Solid beech sub-frame with steel bracing and recently replaced webbing supports below quilted deck. This piece is in excellent vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. To note: some tiny paint flecks on the top of the back frame and top of one back cushion. Scuffed area on the back as shown. Otherwise: minor (attractive) wear to the leather. Please see photos.

76" w x 30" deep (frame) x 26.5" h (frame)
With cushions: 31.25" deep, 29.5" h
Seat height 15"
Seat depth 21"
Seat width 68"
