This is the real deal. Widely copied by both 1960s period Danish designers and current furniture stores, absolutely nothing can compare to the meticulous craftsmanship, superb materials, and exquisite design of Mogensen’s original pieces for Fredericia Furniture in Denmark. Mogensen designed this sofa for his own home in 1962, and it is without a doubt the most iconic Scandinavian-designed sofa of all time. It is sleek and handsome, and very comfortable for everyday use.
Fredericia continues to produce this sofa today, and this model retails for $18,075. Although the materials have changed over the years, this 1960s/70s example has the original solid teak legs (no longer available) and high-grade aniline leather in rich chocolate brown. The seat back and arm cushions filled with goose down and the seat cushions are filled with a combination of down and foam and are very comfortable and luxurious.
This sofa is in excellent vintage condition with very minimal signs of use. There is a scuff on the right arm, a tiny nick on the bottom front edge, and other minor scuffs and scratches. The dust cover underneath is torn but can easily be patched if desired.
