A very hard-to-find design by acclaimed Norwegian designer Ingmar Relling for Vestlandske Møbelfabrik, Norway, 1950s. This model is named “Senior” and is crafted in mahogany, teak and brass. The proportions are wonderful and unusual, with the upholstered shell perching atop the delicately rounded, angled legs. And so comfortable! (Included in the photos above are scans from a 1950s catalog showing production.)
These chairs were recently reupholstered in Robert Allen’s 100% cotton ‘Dotscape’ in the ‘Jet’ colorway, a pattern reminiscent of Marimekko’s ‘Kivet’. The elegant frames have some age-appropriate nicks and scratches; one back leg has a chip and cracks as shown.
