Paul McCobb for Calvin Dining Chairs, Set/4 - $2,000

February 3, 2021

A gorgeous set of midcentury walnut dining chairs designed by American master Paul McCobb as part of the ‘Irwin Collection’ for Calvin Furniture, c. 1960. These chairs are wonderful in person, with their elegant and stylish bowtie backs and beautifully angled back legs.

The walnut frames are in excellent vintage condition with mild, age-appropriate signs of wear. These beauties have been professionally re-upholstered with new foam and a gorgeous nubby wool bouclé: Outback Wool by Maharam Kvadrat. Outback is a luxurious and tactile bouclé upholstery fabric designed by Giulio Ridolfo. The textile features numerous tones in each colorway, which creates subtle color combinations that play across its textured surface. The variation also makes this upholstery quite forgiving for a family with small kids! The fabric is made from a soft and hardwearing blend of wool. Mélange bouclé yarns are used in both warp and weft, which gives the textile body and warmth, while making it very comfortable.

Hans J. Wegner 'W2' Dining Chairs, Set/4 - $4,800 SOLD

November 13, 2020

A gorgeous and tactile example of the early work of the master of seating design, Hans J. Wegner for C.M. Madsens. This is Wegner’s ‘W2’ model in teak. The chair was offered with a variety of seat coverings: our favorite by far is this version, in natural cane.

The sculpted solid teak backrest design was developed as part of Hans Wegner’s family of ground-breaking seating designs of the 1950s including his famous “round chair”, “cow-horn chair”, and “heart chair”.

The inclination, placement, shape, and body contact of the backrest are the result of constant research and experimentation during Wegner's early years of design. He always prioritized strength and comfort in his chairs while at the same time maintaining a sense of proportion and elegant detail that make these chairs true works of art.

This set is in excellent vintage condition. We have had them professionally re-caned by a craftsperson who cares deeply about replicating the original design and using the original, authentic materials. The natural cane seats will mellow and darken over time, celebrating the natural beauty of the material as Wegner intended.

The set displays minot signs of age-appropriate wear. There are a few light scratches and blemishes. There is a very old, stable, hairline crack in one backrest. There are some (original) filled knot holes in the structural members under the seat.

Kipp Stewart for Drexel Walnut & Rosewood Dining Chairs, Set/6 - SOLD

October 30, 2020

In the late 1950’s, Stewart MacDougall and Kipp Stewart partnered with Drexel Heritage to design ‘Declaration’, a modern collection in natural oil-finished walnut. These chairs have wonderful details, like the jauntily splayed back legs and curved back rests with rosewood inlays. So charming! (We have more of these chairs, which can be restored with the same upholstery if you desire a larger set.)

All chairs have been cleaned and restored with new foam and upholstery. The seats are covered in a sumptuous, family-friendly charcoal upholstery fabric by Bernhardt (34% wool, 33% cotton, 23% viscose, 6% polyamide, 3% polyacrylic, 1% polyester. 100,000 + Double Rubs.) Two of the chairs are in excellent vintage condition. The two armchairs and other two side chairs show more signs of age and wear, including dings, scratches, and a few chips. Please see photos.

19 1/2” w x 18 3/4” d x 32” h
seat height 18”

Arm chair:
22” w x 20” d x 32” h
