Danish Teak Hutch / Display / Credenza by Brouer of Denmark - SOLD

March 14, 2016

A lovely and versatile piece of mid-century Danish furniture. This is a two-piece set: it can be used together, as shown, or as a separate credenza and bookshelf/display. This is a very well-made piece of furniture- notice the beveled edges on the case, the cool carved pulls and the detail around the glass doors. Designed by E. Brouer.

The top cabinet boasts locking doors (key included) and adjustable shelves. The bottom credenza has 2 drawers, one with an inner sliding felt-lined drawer, and two cabinets with adjustable shelves. Both pieces are signed on verso.

This piece is in excellent vintage condition with only minor signs of use (a few very minor dings/scratches.) The previous owner installed thin pieces of wood under the top cabinet to raise it slightly, enough to provide a space for electrical cords to pass though out the back. If you plan to house a stereo or office equipment here, that is very handy: if not, we would be happy to remove the stand-offs for you.

Overall dimensions: 39.375" W x 19.675" D x 74.75" H
Credenza: 29.25" H
Upper cabinet: 45.5" H, 11.75" D

Amazing Sculptural Broyhill 'Brasilia' Room Divider - SOLD

February 16, 2016

Broyhill's Brasilia Collection is so iconic and beautiful - and this rare Room Divider is the signature piece of the line! It appears on the cover of the original showroom color brochure and incorporates the style of Brasilia better than any other piece.

The design team was inspired by the utopian buildings in the capital of Brazil, designed by famed architect Oscar Niemeyer. Broyhill's designers worked for two years with Oscar Niemeyer and presented the copyrighted collection in 1962 with his approval. The signature swooping details echo the lines of Niemeyer's iconic Palacio de Alvorada in Brasilia.

This piece is finished on all sides, so it can be placed anywhere in the room and enjoyed from all sides. The base has 3 slide-out drawers on the left and a cabinet with shelf on the right. The top has three fixed shelves for display. This piece is in very good vintage condition with age-appropriate signs of use, finish wear to the legs/base, and one filled chip in a cabinet door. See photos.

Overall dimensions: 45" w x 17" d x 72.75" h
(Top section 13" deep)

Broyhill 'Brasilia' Credenza and China Cabinet

February 16, 2016

Broyhill's Brasilia Collection is so iconic and beautiful! The design team was inspired by the utopian buildings in the capital of Brazil, designed by famed architect Oscar Niemeyer. Broyhill's designers worked for two years with Oscar Niemeyer and presented the copyrighted collection in 1962 with his approval.

The signature swooping cast drawer handles and remarkable bentwood door handles echo the lines of Niemeyer's iconic Palacio de Alvorada in Brasilia. This is some very cool furniture!

This piece is actually two pieces: a credenza (called the "breakfront base" in the original Brasilia catalog) and a china cabinet ("breakfront deck") that sits atop. The top features two opening glass doors and two fixed panes. It also has a vintage cabinet lamp installed at the top ( easily removable if desired.) The base has four dovetailed drawers and two cabinet with shelf. Both pieces are in good vintage condition age-appropriate minor wear and the typical finish loss (especially on the legs and base) found on vintage Broyhill pieces. The top of the credenza base has some scratches and water stains, but these are not visible when the china cabinet is in place. Please see photos.

China cabinet "deck" measures 56" x 13" x 47"

November 8, 2015

Very high quality vintage Danish teak that is perfect for modern living. This 2-piece set, designed by Carlo Jensen for Hundevad & Co. with his signature elongated pulls, features a top hutch with sliding glass doors over adjustable glass shelves. Just below is a very large space that is perfect for a flat-screen TV. There is a full-width adjustable shelf that has an elegant, clever cutout at the very back edge to allow electrical cords to pass through, as does the very back of the hutch itself. Depending on the height of your TV, you can stack other media units above on the shelf, or below in the credenza.

They were well-taken care of in their previous one-owner home and are in very good original condition with lovely patina and a few signs of wear. We noted: a repaired chip on the bottom corner of the bifold door; small veneer chip on right read of credenza; previously re-glued teak edge cap on one "leg" of hutch; small veneer chips lower left corner of hutch. Light scratches on credenza top. All in all this presents very well and is a beautiful, highly functional piece of mid-century design. Marked with the Hundevad stamp and original paper labels.

Credenza measures 54.5" W x 16.75" D x 26" H
Hutch measures 54.5" W x 12" D x 50.75" H
The large space where a TV might go measures a maximum of 27.75" H x 52.75" wide without the shelf.
