Grete Jalk for France & Son Teak and Wool Sofa - SOLD

September 29, 2016

A rare, extra-long iteration of Grete Jalk's sculptural sofa for France & Son, this four-seater features sinuously contoured slats that create a spectacular line from behind. The flared armrests are upholstered, like the original inner-spring cushions, in a blue-green wool that contrasts beautifully with the warm teak frame. A scalloped back support holds the cushions in place.

The solid teak frame has been completely re-done with new Pirelli webbing and deck cover. Signed with the France & Son and John Stuart (importer and retailer of high-end furniture) buttons as well as France & Son stamps on each side frame.

The original upholstery has been professionally cleaned and shows only a few areas of light discoloration, an area of wear on the bottom edge of one seat cushion, and light wear to the very fronts of the arms. The frame has a couple of small chips to the teak. See photos.

height of frame 27.75" height to cushion 31"

Hans J. Wegner No. J16 Rocking Chair, Denmark 1967 - SOLD

September 29, 2016

ON HOLD-

Ask a Dane to think of a rocking chair, and she will probably name this one. J16 is the undisputed classic among the many rockers designed by renowned Danish designer Hans J. Wegner over the years.

This chair, in beech, was made on 8/8/1967 and it has been well-loved over the years. It is sturdy and comfortable with noticeable wear including light discoloration to the original seat, numerous dings and areas of finish wear. Early Authentic Knoll Saarinen Womb Chair & Ottoman - SOLD

May 8, 2016

This is an early authentic Knoll Womb hair & ottoman in the most delicious nubbly bright yellow upholstery! Eero Saarinen designed the groundbreaking Womb Chair in 1946 at Florence Knoll's request for "a chair that was like a basket full of pillows - something she could really curl up in."

This vintage chair is in very good condition for its age. The foam is not crumbly or overly compressed (although not as thick as a brand-new one): the most obvious sign of age is on the inner sides where the fabric ripples just slightly over the padding. See photos. There are no rips or tears, one light stain on the seat, pictured. The chrome is in very good condition with only light pitting on the underside.

Pair of Iconic Knoll Bertoia Diamond Chairs - SOLD

March 14, 2016

The graceful Diamond Chair, designed by Harry Bertoia in 1952, is an astounding study in space, form and function by one of the master sculptors of the last century.

Characteristic of the early environment at Knoll, Hans and Florence never demanded that Bertoia design furniture, but instead encouraged him to explore whatever he liked. They simply asked that if he arrived at something interesting, to show them. Bertoia later explained the process:

“My feeling was that had to come from an inward direction. I began to rely once more on my own body. I began to think in terms of what I would like as a chair. It started very slowly…I came into rod or wire, whether bent of straight. I seemed to find myself at home. It was logical to make an attempt utilizing the wire."

This pair of chairs was produced by Knoll in 1973 and was purchased for a stunning mid-century church in Auburn, Maine. They are in great condition for a vintage pair of these chairs, with only one chip found on the front edge of one, and some small chips near the foot (see photos.)

33" wide x 28.25" deep x 30.5" high.
