Arne Vodder Teak Stereo Cabinet or Bar with Tambour Doors - SOLD

April 22, 2019

By master Danish designer Arne Vodder for Sibast Møbler, the medium-sized stereo cabinet in teak with tambour doors. This configuration has two opening doors on top revealing compartments for a turntable and components, or use it as a drybar and store your glassware and bar supplies here with bottles below! This piece is finished on the back for placement anywhere in the room.

The tambour doors slide open to reveal more storage, with divided record compartments. (The original owner labeled the slots, which we found charming and did not remove. If you’d like them removed just let us know.)

This piece is priced lower than normal due to some damage. There are numerous scratches to the top, including a fairly deep one with a small chip. There is a small area of scratches on the right side back corner. The right tambour door is broken top and bottom along the leading edge, but is still completely functional.

Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for Søborg Modular Teak Pieces - SOLD

December 18, 2017

ON HOLD

Danish architects Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen designed a beautiful collection of mix-and-match teak cases for the renowned cabinetmaker Søborg Møbelfabrik in the 1950s.  We are very pleased to offer four pieces from the collection. All of the cases are crafted of solid teak planks (unlike most Danish case goods) in order to create the gorgeous finger-jointed joinery at each corner.

We offer these four pieces as a set, or they can be purchased separately or in pairs (additional legs are available for the two bookcases without them, if desired.) See pricing below.

This chest features features three shallow, divided, dovetailed drawers and an adjustable shelf. We love the full-height solid brass locking mechanism on the door interior. The key is included. Each of the bookcases features five adjustable shelves with hidden support brackets, and the beautiful finger-jointed detail on each corner.

All pieces have the wonderful patina of decades old, well-cared-for teak. The backs retain (slightly) the stamp from Søborg and John Stuart, the high-end importer/retailer where they were purchased.

Very good vintage condition. The cabinet has some chips to the cabinet edges as shown, a small original production repair on top corner of left door. The top has some minor light staining and scratches as shown, and a slightly darker area along the back where the bookcase blocked sunlight; this will even out over time and light exposure.

One bookcase has a veneer repair on the edge of one shelf. One shelf has a chip on the bottom (not visible.) One bookcase has an area of grain repair (original from cabinetmaker) on right side and small chips on bottom right edge.

Cabinet: 35.375" w x 18.75" d x 37" h
Bookcases: 35.375" w x 10.5" d x 37" h

Full set/4: $3,900
Cabinet alone: $1,550
Bookcase alone: $900-$1,150
2-piece cabinet + bookcase: $2,250
2-piece bookcases: $1,875

Solid Cherry Stereo Cabinet with Bowtie Pulls c.1966 - SOLD

November 11, 2017

This stereo cabinet was designed and custom-built in 1966 for a concert pianist's home, and influenced by the studio furniture of George Nakashima and Sam Maloof.  It housed some serious audiophile components, and is well-designed to hold them, with multiple ventilation and electrical cord holes in the back panel.

This piece is made from solid cherry - no veneers here. It features a lift-top turntable space and record storage on the right, and adjustable shelving, with a pull-out shelf on the bottom, to the left. Included are the original design sketch, invoice, and cabinetmaker's card.

In very good vintage condition. As is often the case with solid wood furniture, the door slabs are affected by air temperature and moisture, and sometimes do not close cleanly. This could certainly be remedied by a light sanding if desired. Otherwise there is only mild, age-appropriate wear.

BØRGE MOGENSEN 'ØRESUND' TEAK/OAK/GLASS CABINET - SOLD

September 30, 2017

Acclaimed Danish designer Børge Mogensen wanted to create the best storage systems for Scandinavian families. He did studies to determine the standard measures for common objects, such as cutlery and shirts, and how many of each item the average person owned. With this information he developed a set of figures for the base width and depth of drawers and shelves, and his information tables were published as a manual on building storage systems. Between 1955 and 1968 he worked with Karl Andersson & Söner, designing the company’s first modern furniture series, 'Øresund' in 1955.

This fabulous sliding door cabinet features high quality construction (notice the oak door tracks: no plastic here!) and wonderful, unusual, patterned amber glass inserts.

In excellent vintage condition with only the most minor signs of wear. There is a tiny dent in the front edge that we could not get to show in photos. This series was available with a variety of bases. We have re-created the original legs for this piece.

September 16, 2017

A great piece for your record collection and stereo components! This lovely, beautifully made media redenza features LP vinyl record storage, a pull-out shelf for your turntable and a beautifully made, finger-jointed divided drawer. An original hole in the bottom (and an additional owner-cut one in the back panel) of the component side keep those wires and cords out of the sight. Made in Denmark by Salin Mobler circa 1960s.

The teak has a beautiful warm patina, and contrasts beautifully with the white oak base. It is in good used condition with signs of age including numerous scratches on the turntable shelf, some scratches and a light ring on the top, some chips on the cabinet edges.

Danish Teak Dovetail Cabinets - SOLD

September 16, 2017

These beauties were brought back from Scandinavia by the original owner in the 1960s. The cases are crafted of solid teak (not veneer) with gorgeous dovetail corner joints. The evident hand of the cabinetmaker, coupled with the richly patina'd teak and unusual inset brass hardware makes these pieces stand out. (We liked the patina'd brass, so did not polish.)

Cabinet #1 has 4 pull-out dovetailed drawers on the left and two adjustable shelves on the right. The top shows some light scratches and rings. The back panel has holes drilled up under the top (from being hung on a wall. We added turned legs and teak stretchers for more functionality.) $825

Cabinet #2 has three adjustable shelves on the interior. The top has some scratches and light rings and small chips around the dovetails. $750

This gorgeous and unusual piece of furniture just came over from Denmark this winter. It is elegantly detailed and of superior quality and craftsmanship.
