ON HOLD
Danish architects Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen designed a beautiful collection of mix-and-match teak cases for the renowned cabinetmaker Søborg Møbelfabrik in the 1950s. We are very pleased to offer four pieces from the collection. All of the cases are crafted of solid teak planks (unlike most Danish case goods) in order to create the gorgeous finger-jointed joinery at each corner.
We offer these four pieces as a set, or they can be purchased separately or in pairs (additional legs are available for the two bookcases without them, if desired.) See pricing below.
This chest features features three shallow, divided, dovetailed drawers and an adjustable shelf. We love the full-height solid brass locking mechanism on the door interior. The key is included. Each of the bookcases features five adjustable shelves with hidden support brackets, and the beautiful finger-jointed detail on each corner.
All pieces have the wonderful patina of decades old, well-cared-for teak. The backs retain (slightly) the stamp from Søborg and John Stuart, the high-end importer/retailer where they were purchased.
Very good vintage condition. The cabinet has some chips to the cabinet edges as shown, a small original production repair on top corner of left door. The top has some minor light staining and scratches as shown, and a slightly darker area along the back where the bookcase blocked sunlight; this will even out over time and light exposure.
One bookcase has a veneer repair on the edge of one shelf. One shelf has a chip on the bottom (not visible.) One bookcase has an area of grain repair (original from cabinetmaker) on right side and small chips on bottom right edge.
