Stunning Sculptural Dining Chairs by J.L. Møller Set/8 - $6,475

September 9, 2021

Designed by Niels O. Møller for J.L. Møller, Denmark, 1962. This is my favorite Møller chair design.... I love the sprightly, sculptural details and slenderness. It reminds me of some elegant creature like an antelope! These chairs are truly functional art. From all angles, they are wonderful to look at, with beautiful details and joinery.

6x Møller Model 78 side chairs in teak and naugahyde
2x Møller Model 62 arm chairs in teak and naugahyde

These chairs have recently been re-issued (though not in teak!) and sell for $1,500 per chair; the original vintage pieces have become increasingly rare and highly sought after. This is a very special set.

Excellent vintage condition. There are a few slight imperfections that were filled at the time of manufacture. There is light, age-appropriate wear. Three of the chairs have tiny holes in the seats (from a cat?). Re-upholstery in leather or fabric is available for an additional cost.

March 7, 2020

(ON HOLD) This is a really special set of chairs. Designed by Villy Schou Andersen for V.S. Andersen, Denmark, 1960s. The solid rosewood frames exhibit spectacular graining, and they’ve just been reupholstered in a striking neutral gray Maharam Kvadrat Remix, a fine wool upholstery designed by Giulio Ridolfo and made in the UK by the Danish company Kvadrat. It’s the perfect choice for these elegant chairs. Note the wonderful tapered detail to the back upholstery, requiring a careful and skilled hand to replicate. (Please note that the color looks lighter in these photos. See the fabric swatch for accurate representation.)

Set/6 Model 71 J.L. Møller Teak Dining Chairs - SOLD

January 9, 2020

An outstanding set of six Model 71 dining chairs, designed in 1951 by Arne Hovmand-Olsen and produced by J.L. Møller. This set is in amazingly excellent original condition, with the perfect patina to both the teak frames and original Danish cord seats. These chairs came from the collection of a family who purchased them in Denmark in the 1950s and had them shipped over to the US, where they remained in storage for many years. They were extraordinarily well-cared for, along with the rest of the Arne Vodder and Finn Juhl furniture we obtained from the same collection.

The chairs show only very mild signs of use and age. There are a few lighter spots on the seats from being cleaned. Each chair bears the pencil signature of the craftsman who completed it.

Set/6 Danish Teak Dining Chairs by Torbjørn Afdal for Vamo - SOLD

November 24, 2019

Beautiful, sculptural and elegant Model 113 dining chairs in teak and flax/wool. Designed by Torbjørn Afdal for Vamo Møbelfabrik, Sønderborg, Denmark 1960s. All-Original Iconic Eames RAR Rocking Chair, Elephant Hide Gray - SOLD

June 6, 2019

Wow! An untouched original Eames RAR in fabulous Elephant Hide Gray! It is so unusual to find a true vintage Eames rocker that is completely original. We have not restored the shell, base, or rockers at all, only given the chair a light cleaning. The shell is in amazing condition.

The rocking chair is part of Charles and Ray Eames’ 1948 collection of seating with shells made from polyester reinforced with glass fiber, a new material developed by the US army in the second world war. The seat could be attached to a number of bases, including a wooden rocker (RAR = “rocking armchair rod”). These chairs were produced until 1968 by Herman Miller, and have since been re-issued with polypropylene seats.

This is a wonderful example of the original visible-fiber shell construction, in excellent as-found vintage condition. It is missing one original screw from one shock mount. We are happy to provide a new screw if desired.

April 22, 2019

This an outstanding set of chairs designed by Niels Keofoed for Koefoeds Hornslet, Denmark, circa 1960. Produced mostly in teak, this set is made of solid, warm and beautifully figured rosewood. One chair has a dark spot (knot?) on the backrest and a small area of lighter finish wear on the back of one spindle. One chair has a very minor scratch on the backrest and a tiny scuff on the corner of the backrest.

The carefully shaped soft geometric backs, tapered legs, and X-base supporting a “floating” seat are quite stunning in person. These chairs have been restored and re-upholstered in soft, top-quality black leather.

This solid teak frames are in very good vintage condition, with age-appropriate scratches and bruises and a few spots of white paint embedded into the grain as shown.

Erik Kirkegaard Teak and Leather Armchair - SOLD

September 17, 2018

Teak armchair model 43 by Erik Kirkegaard for Høng Stolefabrik, designed in the 1950s. Sturdy solid teak frame with gorgeous patina. Use for dining or at a desk. We love the exposed joinery where the backrest meets the arm, peeking out from the leather. This is a very comfortable chair!

In very good vintage condition. Original leather upholstery has minor wear as shown but is intact and supple. Original foam in seat has degraded somewhat but is still functional. Minor age-appropriate wear to the frame including a ding to the arm as shown.

24.25” w x 24” d x 29.5” h
seat height 18.25”
