ON HOLD - Iconic 'Floating Seat' Dining Chair by Erik Buch in Teak with New Upholstery - SOLD

September 1, 2018

Described as some of the most comfortable dining chairs ever made, these solid teak chairs by Erik Buch (Buck) for O.D. Møbler (Oddense Maskinsnedkeri) are becoming one of the most desirable designs for collectors of mid-century Danish furniture. Designed in 1949. They feature Buch's wonderful "floating" seat and great attention to detail. And did we mention how comfortable they are???

This beauy have been professionally re-upholstered with new foam and a wonderful wool/flax blend fabric. Camira's 'Main Line Flax' is from sustainable sources. A symbol of purity, wild flax has been used in textiles for thousands of years thanks to its strong, long and smooth fibers found inside the stem of the plant. The fiber is spun into a 70-30 wool flax blend, then fiber dyed to create beautiful mixture yarns. This is the Archway colorway, a wonderful neutral that makes the teak pop.

Set/8 Hans J. Wegner CH23 Dining Chairs - SOLD

June 11, 2018

A spectacular set of eight dining chairs by Danish master, Hans J. Wegner. Designed in 1950. Produced by Carl Hansen & Søn, Denmark. The CH23 dining chair is an early example of Wegner's unique style and insightful craftsmanship, and contains many well-known Wegner details - for example, the elegantly shaped cruciform caps on the backrest and the special double-woven seat.

Wegner was a master in making complex designs appear simple, and despite the CH23 chair's richness in unique detail, its appearance is ultimately light and simple. The chair has no armrests, which makes it practical for fitting around the table, even in small rooms. Thanks to its ingenious design and organic form, it is also unsurpassed for comfort.

The CH23 is made of solid European white oak with a form-pressed teak veneer backrest. The beautiful color contrast between the teak and oak inlay, both with the perfect patina of almost 70 years of use, is wonderful. These chairs have all been re-woven in new Danish papercord, with careful attention to replicate the unique original weaving.

This set is generally in very good vintage condition with minor age-appropriate wear. Of note: several chairs have had repairs- 3 have filled chips to the front legs as shown. 2 have repaired breaks in legs.

Rare Funder-Schmidt & Madsen, Denmark Chairs, Set/6 - SOLD

September 8, 2015

These beautiful molded teak plywood chairs are very unusual. They were made in Denmark in the 1950s by the fine cabinetmakers Funder-Scmidt & Madsen. We believe the designer is Erik Buch.

These are really wonderful chairs: much more substantial than typical Danish chairs, with beautiful curved laminated backrests and "floating" seats.

This set is in very good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. There are a few tiny spots of white paint splatter. One chair appears to have had its back reglued at some point. One chair has a small nick on the back age. All in all they look great, with a beautiful patina.
