This an outstanding set of chairs designed by Niels Keofoed for Koefoeds Hornslet, Denmark, circa 1960. Produced mostly in teak, this set is made of solid, warm and beautifully figured rosewood. The chairs are both comfortable and gorgeously detailed, especially the two arm chairs, whose delicate carved and curved arms are connected to the lower rail with amazing joinery.
This set is in excellent vintage condition with only the most very minor signs of age. The seats have been re-upholstered in Danish wool: Maharam’s Kvadrat ‘Outback Wool’ boucle in a rich gray with copper highlights that plays beautifully with the rosewood frames.
One chair has a dark spot to the front leg, which could be a natural inclusion of the wood or a burn mark. One chair has two small dark spots on the top of the backrest. One chair has a dark spot (knot?) on the backrest and a small area of lighter finish wear on the back of one spindle. One chair has a very minor scratch on the backrest and a tiny scuff on the corner of the backrest.
Arm chairs measure 20 1/2” wide x 20” deep by 38 3/8” high. Seat height 18”
Side chairs measure 18 3/4” wide x 20” deep by 38 3/8” high. Seat height 18”
