Outstanding Johannes Andersen No. 14 Credenza or Highboard with Bar - SOLD

June 11, 2016

Rarely seen in the United States, highboards were an integral part of Danish interiors in the 1960s. In typical Scandinavian fashion, a whole lot of usefulness and style is packed into one piece of furniture. This piece, No. 14 by highly collectible designer Johannes Andersen for Uldum Møbelfabrik, was just brought over from Denmark this winter. Drop-dead gorgeous details include the sculpted solid teak base, amazing hand-carved handles with "fins" that turn the corner on the drawers, and overall very fine construction and attention to detail. It has the perfect patina of properly-cared-for 60-year-old teak.

On the top, the outer sliding doors open to reveal adjustable shelving. The center left section houses a fabulous mirrored bar area, complete with a slide-out shelf for mixing drinks. The center right features 2 felt-lined shallow drawers with exposed finger-jointed corners, and an adjustable shelf. Below are six drawers. The outer four shallow drawers are felt-lined.

This piece is in very good vintage condition with the following blemishes to note: top has a few light scratches, small darker marks, and one very light stain (see photos.) These are not at all offensive; for the top of a 60-year-old credenza it is in great shape. The left side of the case has a blended scratch and what appears to be an old filled dent. The center two drawers have tiny corner chips and old, filled chips on the drawer front and a chip on the handle. The bottom left door has a slight crack in the handle. The removeable black glass bar surface has a few small chips on the back edge. All in all, this piece represents very well and makes an impressive and graceful statement in any room!

Early Danish Teak Credenza by H.P. Hansen - SOLD

March 30, 2016

Tons of storage in this beautifully made teak sideboard by H.P. Hansen c.1950s or early 1960s. It has elegant, refined details such as a nicely beveled case and long, finely carved pulls. We have seen this design attributed to Arne Vodder but do not have confirmation. This credenza features a bank of five drawers on the right and two sliding-door cabinets with adjustable shelves to hold stereo or TV components or your dining room treasures!

This piece is in excellent vintage condition with a beautiful warm patina. Age-appropriate wear is noted including: minimal light scratches and a small paint spot on the top. Small, old/blended chips on the some drawer corners, a couple of dents on the front edge, slight seam separation on the top left corner (structurally sound.) The drawer interiors show some stains: the second drawer was used for art supplies and badly stained: we have covered the bottom in green felt. The previous owner removed the original base and new legs have been added.

Wonderful Danish Teak Credenza by Ib Kofod Larsen - SOLD

March 30, 2016

Early Mid Century Modern vintage Danish teak sideboard by revered Danish designer, Ib Kofod-Larsen. Quality Scandinavian craftsmanship is evident in the joinery of the legs to the body of the unit. This gorgeous credenza is in good vintage condition with age-appropriate signs of use and the following of note (see detail photos): top has some light stains and rings, a small darker spot, light scratches and a small deeper scratch on back edge. Front bottom left has a gouge/chip. Light scratches on center pull. Please see the photos for these areas. The decorative veneer on the back of the credenza is peeling, but not noticeable if you will be using this piece against a wall!

The bookcase has a pre-drilled hole in each corner for electrical cables (one has a plastic cover in it.) This would be great to house stereo equipment or office electronics.

This is a really well-made piece: check out the joinery details between the cabinets and the carved pulls. I included a photo of the inside of a door so you can see how the solid rosewood pull is inset into the door.

The piece is in very good vintage condition. There is one light scratch and a couple of old chips on the back edge of the top, and the doors have a few areas of finish lightening. See photos.

Sculptural Mahogany Credenza c. 1950s - SOLD

February 6, 2016

What a lovely and unusual piece of furniture! This mid-century credenza / sideboard / server / buffet is by Hickory Manufacturing Company in North Carolina. It is crafted of bleached mahogany veneers with contrasting darker solid mahogany accents.

I love the very sculptural, carved drawer and door pulls, the asian-inspired legs/base and the beautiful rattan or grasscloth inserts in the doors. So unique!

There is lots of storage with 4 center drawers (top drawer has felted compartments) and 2 side cabinets with shelves.

This piece is in good vintage condition with wear commensurate with age and use. The original lacquer finish shows some alligatoring and a few small areas of flaking. The top has numerous shallow scratches and two areas that appear to have been sanded and filled at some point: see photos.
