Nordic architects and furniture designers have a long history of creating efficiency in built spaces. Modular wall units -configurable to fit each home's needs- exemplify this idea, and Poul Cadovius's CADO wall units exemplify the genre.
Highly sought after for its grace, warmth, and supreme functionality, Cado's 'Royal' System is the answer to any home's storage and display needs. The 'Royal' system was designed in 1948 and crafted in Denmark for decades. (It has recently been reissued and is for sale at Design Within Reach.)
This example, in walnut, consists of two 'bays' created by three 78" high wall rails or standards. The modular cabinets and shelves can be configured however you like. This set includes:
1x shelf: 7.75" deep (a second is available but we only have one of the brackets for it...)
2x shelves: 9.5" deep
2x 3-drawer cases: 14.75" deep x 16.75" high
1x basket-weave (teak weave?) drop-down bar (could be used as a desk) with two adjustable curved molded-plywood drawers and bottle rack.
Includes one pair of CADO bookends
*All units are aprox 30" wide
Overall width installed as shown: 64.375"
This piece is in overall good vintage condition with wear and scratches, and with the following to note:
Interior of bar area has very light rings and light stains; Basket-weave door has chip below handle; drawers have numerous chips as shown; tops of drawer units show rings, stains and scratches; back edges -where cases and shelves meet wall rails- have some chips; one deep shelf has chip on corner. Deep shelf has large dark ring on top surface (place it high up and you'll never see it!) When in use and loaded with books and items, these are not as noticeable.
