Nordic architects and furniture designers have a long history of creating efficiency in built spaces. Modular wall units -configurable to fit each home's needs- exemplify this idea, and Poul Cadovius's CADO wall units exemplify the genre.
Highly sought after for its grace, warmth, and supreme functionality, Cado's 'Royal' System is the answer to any home's storage and display needs. The 'Royal' system was designed in 1948 and crafted in Denmark for decades. (It has recently been reissued and is for sale at Design Within Reach.)
This example, in beautifully patina'd teak with ebonized standards or wall rails, consists of three 'bays'. The modular cabinets and shelves can be configured however you like. This set includes:
2x shelves: 7.75" deep
2x shelves: 9.5" deep
2x open display cabinets with glass shelves: 9.5" deep x 22" high
1x sliding door cabinet with one shelf: 11" deep x 13" high
1x double drawer/cubby unit: 11.75" deep x 9.75" high
1x drop-down desk with one adjustable shelf: 15.75" deep x 20.25" high
1x small drop-down bar/desk / 3-drawer unit: 11.75" deep x 13.125" high
*All units are 29.875" wide
Overall width installed as shown: 96"
4x ebonized standards / wall rails at 69" high
This piece is in overall very good vintage condition, with age-appropriate wear and scratches, and with the following to note:
Some cabinets have small screw holes on sides; some shelves have tiny thumbtack holes; top of large desk unit has some rings. Desk door has filled holes near key hole where previous owner had installed a handle; small desk/bar unit has scratches and a squiggly area of discoloration on top and raised veneer on end which can be felt more than seen; a few corner/edge chips, scratches and dings. Overall this piece presents very well.
