Rare Gerald Thurston for Lightolier Tripod Lamp - SOLD

March 30, 2016

Designer Gerald Thurston’s right hand was insured for a million dollars. His designs were at the cutting edge of mid-century lighting and are highly collectible today. This piece is from Lightolier's "Scandia" collection, c. 1957, influenced by Scandinavian design. This lamp was purchased in Manhattan by an advertising designer in the 50s. It looks so lovely when lit! Switch marked "Lightolier".

Vintage condition with age-related wear. We have not attempted to polish the brass tripod base. The opal glass shade has been broken and repaired at the bottom back side, which is mostly hidden by the brass base. There is also a hairline crack in the top edge. One of the brass arms is missing it's cap. See photos for these areas. Price reflects these issues.

9.25" x 17.25"

Fantastic Mid-Century RAAK Chandelier - SOLD

October 6, 2015

Elegant, sexy chandelier by RAAK Amsterdam with five pendants. This casts a beautiful light (especially on a dimmer switch) and makes a great statement. The black wires have a bit of extra behind the plate, or could be easily rewired if you have especially tall ceilings.

This is one of RAAK's most sought-after models. ‘RAAK Lighting Architecture’ was founded in Amsterdam 1954. In the 30 years RAAK existed it produced many daring models designed by prominent artists like Tapio Wirkkala, Sergio Asti , Casati & Ponzio and Lomazzi, D’Urbino & De Pas.

This piece came from an estate filled with high-end mid-century design. It is very well-made, heavy and high quality. Measurements and better photos to follow.
