BØRGE MOGENSEN 'ØRESUND' TEAK & OAK CHEST -SOLD

January 4, 2021

Acclaimed Danish designer Børge Mogensen wanted to create the best storage systems for Scandinavian families. He did studies to determine the standard measures for common objects, such as cutlery and shirts, and how many of each item the average person owned. With this information he developed a set of figures for the base width and depth of drawers and shelves, and his information tables were published as a manual on building storage systems. Between 1955 and 1968 he worked with Karl Andersson & Söner, designing the company’s first modern furniture series, 'Øresund' in 1955.

This gorgeous chest of drawers was designed as part of the Øresund system, and could be used plain or with a shelving or glass-fronted cabinet top. It features very high-quality cabinetry, carefully chosen wood, and beautiful carved pulls.

In excellent vintage condition. The top has a slightly lighter area where the top hutch stood blocking sunlight: this will eventually even out. There are some small scratches and dents on the top. There are a couple of small chips on the drawer corners and a veneer repair on one drawer edge as shown. When we bought this piece, it had a broken pull. We contacted Karl Andersson in Sweden, and, remarkably, they had a few of the old-stock pulls in a drawer, and we were able to replace it! This series was available with a variety of bases. We have re-created the original legs for this piece in white oak as originally offered.

53"w x 18 1/8"d (carved pulls protrude about 3/4” further) x 32 1/8" h

Custom Teak Dresser with Oak Drawers - SOLD

September 21, 2020

This dresser was commissioned by an architect with a house full of high-end Danish pieces, and built for him in Canada in the 1960s. It borrows some design elements from Arne Vodder chests, like the sculpted lip on the back edge to prevent items from falling behind. The cabinet is teak veneer, and the drawers -which are deeper than we typically find on Danish dressers- are solid oak. We love the perfectly matched veneer across the drawer fronts, so stunning!

This piece is in overall good vintage condition. There are minor chips and scratches. To note: a burn on the dresser top, a chip to the back bottom corner right side, and veneer chips on the drawer edges, which are not seen when drawers are closed. Please see photos. The piece is priced accordingly.

54” x 20” x 30 1/4” high to dresser top, carved lip adds 3/4” for an overall height of 31”.

Pair of Danish Teak Nightstands or Side Tables by Falster Møbelfabrik - SOLD

January 29, 2020

This is a really lovely pair of teak bedside tables made in Denmark in the 1960s by Falster Møbelfabrik. Often attributed to Arne Vodder or Svend Madsen. This is a very well-made set, with beautiful pieces of teak and a great patina. It is also in truly excellent vintage condition, with only the lightest wear. These tables came from the collection of a family who purchased them in Denmark in the 1950s and had them shipped over to the US, where they remained in storage for many years. They were extraordinarily well-cared for, along with the rest of the Arne Vodder, Moller, and Finn Juhl furniture we obtained from the same collection.

There is a very light small discolored area on one side, some extremely faint rings and very minor scratches. 1/8” w x 18 1/8” d x 23 3/4” h
