Dark mahogany cases with rosewood (cerro) drawer fronts, solid brass and mahogany bar pulls, dovetail constructed drawers, beautiful wood grain, and clean modernist lines. Original Dunbar labels in the top drawers. Bottom drawers with removable dividers.

Outstanding Danish Rosewood Chest of Drawers by Kai Winding - SOLD

October 20, 2017

Wow. This is a spectacular piece of furniture. The Brazilian rosewood has absolutely gorgeous movement and grain, the proportions are so pleasing, and the quality and craftsmanship are outstanding. The drawer fronts are crafted of book-matched solid (!!!) Brazilian rosewood with carved, inset handles, and the drawer bodies are mahogany. This is a rare and wonderful piece.

Designed by Kai Winding and produced by P. Jeppesens Møbelsnedkeri.

In truly excellent vintage condition with only the most minor signs of age and use. The front section of the top is slightly lighter than the rest due to having been exposed to the sun more; this slight difference should even out over time. The top has a few minor scratches and scuffs that are not very noticeable with all the grain. There is a tiny dent on the left edge and a miniscule chip on the back edge. Very small area of wear on bottom left corner. See photos. All drawers slide perfectly.

Børge Mogensen 'Øresund' Teak & Oak Chest - SOLD

September 30, 2017

Acclaimed Danish designer Børge Mogensen wanted to create the best storage systems for Scandinavian families. He did studies to determine the standard measures for common objects, such as cutlery and shirts, and how many of each item the average person owned. With this information he developed a set of figures for the base width and depth of drawers and shelves, and his information tables were published as a manual on building storage systems. Between 1955 and 1968 he worked with Karl Andersson & Söner, designing the company’s first modern furniture series, 'Øresund' in 1955.

This gorgeous chest of drawers was designed as part of the Øresund system, and could be used plain or with a shelving or glass-fronted cabinet top (see our other listing for the top section.) It features very high-quality cabinetry, carefully chosen wood, and beautiful carved pulls.

In excellent vintage condition. The top has a slightly lighter area where the top hutch stood blocking sunlight: this will eventually even out. One drawer has a chip on the bottom edge. There are two very small, filled dings on the top and front edge as shown. The top edge of one drawer (not visible when closed) has a scratch as shown. This series was available with a variety of bases. We have re-created the original legs for this piece.
