This is a wonderfully designed, very high quality mid-century dresser from the 'Contempora' collection by Mt. Airy Furniture in North Carolina. This piece -part of a bedroom set from which we have several pieces- was retailed by John Stuart, a high-end furniture importer who specialized in Danish and American designer pieces. This set is often attributed to the great Danish designer, Finn Juhl, but we believe it was simply influenced by his designs.
In bleached walnut with a wonderful external-leg design and fabulous solid brass pulls (please note: the pulls are currently being polished. In these photos they are tarnished.) These pieces are very heavy, as they are made primarily of walnut. There is a lot of solid walnut, and, according to the original tag, even the plywood beneath the veneered areas is made primarily of walnut!
In very good vintage condition with age-appropriate signs of use. There is some finish wear around the handles and edges of the top, and some abrasions on the legs. There is a sliver of veneer missing from the bottom left drawer. Please see photos. The top of this dresser was covered with a sheet of custom-fit glass, which the buyer may take if desired.
