From the discerning John Stuart, a high-end retailer in New York and Grand Rapids in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s comes this grand and unusual coffee table. John Stuart imported the best Danish furniture and also carried pieces by the some of the most famous American designers of the era. This American-made piece carries the John Stuart button and the stencil "277 Coffee Table". We suspect this is part of the highly collectible (and very expensive!) 'Janus Collection'.
The table has great details including tapered, flattened hexagonal legs and a beveled edge. The ebonizing lacquer finish shows wear on some corners and is crazing, and with a few blemishes, on the top. We like the effect, but this table could be refinished to its original pristine glory if desired. We have priced this piece far lower than usual for this reason.
