One of our favorite designs from Dansk, the iconic 'Congo' staved teak ice bucket, designed by Jens Quistgaard.
Designed in 1961 and inspired by the hulls of viking ships, this staved teak design is sometimes called the "Viking'. It is one of Quistgaard's most famous pieces; it has become an iconic symbol of mid-century design. By 1966 it had been added to the permanent collections of 23 art museums around the world, including The Louvre, New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and London's Victoria and Albert Museum.
This highly collectible ice bucket would be a marvelous addition to midcentury decor, whether displayed or pressed into service at your next party. The piece is quite versatile and can be used as intended (see vintage advertisment above), or could hold flowers or other items. A beautiful example of fine design and craftsmanship.
It is in very good vintage condition with typical wear for its age, including minor dings and a few small chips as shown. Orange liner in excellent condition.

This example has a a chip on the handle and a cracked liner, so it is not watertight and should be used for display only. It is a beautiful object!

We are pleased to offer an extremely rare and highly sought-after rosewood / palisander and silver plated pepper miil - one of the earliest designs of the 'Rare Woods’ Limited Edition designed by the Jens Harald Quistgaard for Dansk Designs, Denmark in the 1960's. Only 7 pepper mills of the rarest shapes from this group were made with silver plated collars. We currently have two of these beauties!
The ‘Rare Woods’ collection uses gorgeous and carefully chosen rare and exotic woods from Nicaragua, Brazil, British Honduras and East Africa. The natural wood surface has a beautiful finish and is smooth and heavy as marble. These pieces also feature top quality grinding mechanisms made of case-hardened steel by Peugeot Freres Lion, France. These signed grinders have been considered the best on the market since 1840. The durability of these mechanisms and their proven track record allows Peugeot to provide a lifetime guarantee on the grinding mechanism.
This pepper mill was handcrafted of beautifully grained exotic wood (Palisander / Rosewood? Or another rare wood) with a natural finish. Marked “DANSK DESIGNS LTD, DENMARK, JHQ”
The peppermill still retains its lustrous patina. The silver plated band has some discoloration. There is a slight chip to the bottom edge as shown. We have not attempted to clean it.
5 1/8” high x 2” diameter.

A lovely, large teak bowl crafted in Denmark by ESA. On the bottom, one of the staves has a slightly separated joint (very common on vintage staved teak pieces) and is more appropriate as a fruit bowl than for liquids.
11" diameter x 4" high.
