A wonderful mid century modernist stoneware box designed by Aldo Londi for Bitossi Ceramiche in Italy in the 1960s. Inspiration for the glaze came from the Adriatic sea off the coast of Rimini. The glaze and the series has become iconic and among the most highly collectable of Aldo Londis' work.
The geometric 'Sgraffito' decor is very tactile, with shapes and lines embossed into the clay during the crafting process. The glaze displays strokes of green, Persiano and deep blue.
