Rare Danish Teak Credenza by Anton Borg - SOLD

June 4, 2020

Designed by Anton Borg (who often collaborated with Arne Vodder) for Randers Møbelfabrik, produced 1955-1957. This is a beautifully made, large and handsome piece with tons of storage. On the right, a bank of dovetailed drawers with wonderful rectangular handles flanks a sliding door section with two inner felt-lined drawers and an adjustable shelf. To the left, double sliding doors reveal a large storage area with an adjustable shelf. The piece has some very fine details, such as wooden door runners and a stepped detail on the shelf edge that matches the detailing on the case itself. The designer and maker clearly put a lot of thought into the detailing, and it is very well made.

This piece is in excellent restored condition. There are a few very light scratches on the refinished top. One drawer has light staining to the interior as shown. The bottom drawer binds slightly. There are some very small chips to the bottom edge of the runner.

Gorgeous Arne Vodder for Sibast No. OS29 Credenza in Teak, 1950 - SOLD

January 9, 2020

This is a stellar example of the iconic model OS29 credenza by Arne Vodder for Sibast Mobler in the 1950s. World famous for winning at the 1958 Triennale design award., this piece beautifully combines all of the hallmarks of Arne Vodder’s work. The sideboard has six drawers and three beveled adjustable shelves behind two sliding doors. The doors are reversible to a stunning black for more graphic impact if desired.

Provenance: from the collection of a family who purchased a houseful of furniture in Denmark in the 1950s and had it shipped over to the US, where it remained in storage for many years. It was extraordinarily well-cared for, along with the rest of the Moller, Nanna Ditzel, Arne Vodder and Finn Juhl furniture we obtained from the same collection.

The piece has the perfect patina of 65 year old teak. There is a very slight half-ring on the top, a tiny nick on the front edge, and a slight dent in the back lip as shown. Otherwise only extremely minimal wear. The drawer interiors were always covered and look fresh from the showroom.

Spectacular Teak + Brass Credenza by Aksel Bender Madsen + Ejner Larsen

Spectacular Teak + Brass Credenza by Aksel Bender Madsen + Ejner Larsen - SOLD

October 31, 2019

This is such a special piece. Masterfully designed by Aksel Bender Madsen and Ejner Larsen and exquisitely made by Næstved Møbelfabrik in Denmark, c. 1960s. This beauty is long and lean and so very elegant with her cast brass door pulls and adjustable feet. The finely crafted disappearing tambour doors open to reveal adjustable shelves and finger-jointed pull-out trays (please see the video for demonstration.) The teak is beautifully grained and with a fabulous patina: the bottom of the case is especially beautiful with iridescent flaming. Finished on the back, this piece would make a wonderful room divider in an open living space. Model No. 1708: a rare design to begin with, but the few examples we’ve seen before have had teak door pulls rather than brass. This one is very special.

In excellent restored vintage condition with age-appropriate signs of wear. The case corners and edges have numerous light dings and bruises. The front right case edge has more noticeable blemishes as shown. There is a small chip to the very back, lower right side corner; a small chip on the top back right corner, and light scratches to the top.

Rare and Spectacular Paul McCobb Dresser or Credenza in Walnut, Leather, and Slate - SOLD

March 4, 2019

Here is a piece to pass on for generations to come. A very rare dresser (or sideboard) designed by Paul McCobb for small distribution. From the New England Collection for H. Sacks, and Sons, Massachusetts.

Unlike some of McCobb’s mass-produced pieces, this bears the signs of small-production fine craftsmanship. It is incredibly well-built, with massive support for the gorgeous slate top. The numbering of the many drawers reveals that this piece was created in a very small run, probably no more than four or five pieces were built at that time.

Occasionally, when cleaning and assessing pieces in our workshop, we find one that stops us short: the level of craftsmanship and attention to detail in the design and proportion is just so fine that we are in awe. This is one of those pieces. It is truly remarkable.

The top is an inset piece of inky, velvety slate with natural inclusions. Below are six small drawers with sculpted aluminum pulls in recessed wooden cups. The ingenious magnetic tri-fold doors open to reveal eight dovetailed walnut-fronted drawers and ten pull-out trays. The doors feature inset panels of black leather, and the walnut chosen has beautiful grain and depth of color.

This piece is in excellent vintage condition.

Rare Arne Vodder Danish Walnut Stereo Cabinet, Sibast Møbler 1950s - SOLD

February 1, 2019

This is a wonderful -and very large!- Danish walnut stereo cabinet by master designer Arne Vodder. Crafted by Sibast Møbler and imported by George Tanier. The proportions and details of this piece are outstanding, with Vodder’s signature carved lip along the back edge. The walnut is beautifully grained and tiger-striped with iridescence. This rare extra-long tambour-door design was offered as a sideboard or a media cabinet with a variety of dividers and components according to each individual customers needs. This example is even rarer since it features the upgraded chrome and walnut capped legs.

The piece is currently configured to hold a turntable under the central lift-up door. We can lower the interior shelf, if you desire, for use as a bar or for other storage.

This piece is in very good vintage condition. The top has has been stripped and re-oiled and has a few minor dings, scratches and chips as shown but presents very well. The case edge has a few small nicks and bruises.

The interior of these stereo cabinets were often unfinished, since people were storing large gear inside. This one was re-configured by a previous owner and a back panel appears to have been replaced at some point. There are several small and one larger holes for cables and cords cut in the back panels. Some screw holes from the legs are visible on the interior.

Danish Rosewood Sideboard, Omann Jun Model No. 4- SOLD

December 1, 2018

Elegant sideboard with two cabinet doors and neatly arranged interior drawers and shelves. The rich rosewood surface and fine detailing, such as the slight projection of the doors, lend a sophisticated aesthetic typical of fine Danish furnituremaker Omann Jun Møbelfabrik A/S. This family-run business initially focused on the production of bedroom furniture but later, in 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s, expanded into dining room furniture, desks, sideboards and shelving systems made in high-quality woods, such as teak, oak, and rosewood. Among collectors, the beautifully constructed wood sideboards remain Omann Jun's most sought after productions.

The mahogany-lined interior features there adjustable shelves and two shallow felt-lined drawers with silverware dividers. This piece is in excellent vintage condition. The tapered legs were added in Denmark. The rosewood and mahogany top has been refinished in hand-rubbed matte poly varnish, so you’ll have no worries about setting drinks on the top! The rosewood doors are slightly lighter due to sun exposure.
